ABOUT THE EVENT

Impact investment is an investment philosophy in which capital is deployed with the explicit intention of generating measurable positive change — socially and environmentally — alongside financial returns. The field is growing rapidly, but the question of how to scale it meaningfully remains open.

Date: 15 October

Time: 13:00-15:00

Place: Malmstensalen, School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Vasagatan 1.

This seminar brings together voices from across the investment landscape to explore what it takes to mobilise capital for lasting systemic change.

What role do business, venture capital and philanthropy play when proven solutions need to scale? What would it take to do more — and what are the real obstacles? Questions of measurability, risk-sharing and long-term commitment move to the centre as we shift our focus from individual initiatives to systemic transformation.

Joined by WIN WIN laureates Dr. Alaa Murabit and Julieta Martínez, leaders from academia, business and investment come together for a conversation about the opportunities and gaps in impact investment today. The day will be moderated by Ann Ighe, Senior Lecturer in Economic History from School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Alaa Murabit — WIN WIN Award laureate. Brings experience spanning large-scale philanthropic financing at the Gates Foundation to venture capital and impact-driven investment at 500 Global.

  • Julieta Martínez — WIN WIN Youth Award laureate. Founder of Tremendas, a Latin American platform that connects and mobilises young women to lead initiatives across climate, gender equality and education.

  • Anders Sandoff — Senior Lecturer, School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. Presents the current state of research on impact investment — what we know, and what we still need to understand.

  • Sofie Runius Cederberg — Head of Group Sustainability, SKF. Represents the industrial reality of the transition, where multi-billion capital flows are converted into concrete impact at scale.

  • Åsa Knudsen Sterte — Head of Climate and Sustainable Finance, SEB. Brings a rare blend of regulatory and financial markets experience, from shaping EU sustainable finance policy to scaling financial solutions that align impact with risk, incentives and returns.

This seminar is organised by WIN WIN Award, the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, SKF and SEB.
