TEN RECOMMENDATIONS
CORE PERSPECTIVES FROM VÄSTRA GÖTALAND
The ten recommendations are the core output of the Leadership for Gender-Equal Societies project. Grounded in real conversations with students, leaders, and organisations across Västra Götaland, they offer concrete, actionable steps for anyone with the mandate to influence leadership, recruitment, and organisational culture. At a time when several sectors struggle to attract and retain talent, creating more inclusive leadership cultures is one of the most concrete things organisations can do to strengthen their long-term resilience.

The UN reminds us that no global goal outweighs another, but some are foundations for all the others to succeed. Gender equality is one of them. That is why the ten recommendations matter, and why they have the potential to influence the region's decisions, strengthen leadership, and make a real difference in people's lives. Gender equality on the agenda is crucial for sustainable development to succeed.

ABOUT LEADERSHIP FOR GENDER-EQUAL SOCIETIES
Leadership for Gender-Equal Societies is a regional project run by WIN WIN Award, funded by Västra Götalandsregionen. Throughout 2026, the project brought together students, business leaders, and public actors across Gothenburg, Trollhättan, Borås, and Mark to identify structural barriers to gender-equal leadership and develop concrete recommendations for change.

The project was built on research and lived experience from academia and business, and gathered insights from both established leaders and those with their careers ahead of them. The conversations took place through seminars, workshops, and roundtable discussions, creating space for knowledge exchange, network building, and honest reflection on what it takes to create more inclusive leadership cultures in the region.
Jenny Claesson, gender scientist and co-owner of Add Gender AB, served as the lead speaker across the project’s seminars, workshops, and roundtable discussions.
The result is ten concrete recommendations directed at organisations, decision-makers, and anyone with the mandate to influence leadership, recruitment, and organisational culture. Not as a wish list, but as a practical starting point for those ready to act.
“Gender equality rarely fails because people oppose it. It fails when nobody owns it after the conference ends. These ten recommendations are written for the manager deciding who gets promoted and for the board choosing its next chair. In parts of the world equality is being rolled back right now. Västra Götaland has every reason to move the other way, and to do it in practice.”
