Community Organising

Some of society's most pressing challenges cannot be solved from a distance. They call for solutions rooted in the specific place and context in which they arise. Those solutions often already exist, in the experiences, relationships and local knowledge where the challenges play out. Join us for a conversation on local leadership, context-based solutions and lasting, positive societal change. Arranged in collaboration with Göteborgs Stadsmission.

We meet at the Bergsjön Cultural House to hear from this year's WIN WIN laureates, whose life's work is, in different ways, rooted in community organising and speaks to what it takes for change to become more than a passing surge.

The conversation continues in a panel discussion with local actors who face these questions daily. Together, they share what community organising in Gothenburg and Sweden looks like in practice, the setbacks as well as the breakthroughs.

Dr. Alaa Murabit | WIN WIN Award 2026

Dr. Alaa Murabit's work in peacebuilding and global governance has given her a deep understanding of how trust and legitimacy are built among people with differing interests and perspectives. She speaks to what it takes to navigate periods of profound change, what is lost when those most affected by a decision are excluded from shaping it, and why inclusion is a precondition for change to last. Julieta Martínez | WIN WIN Youth Award 2026

Julieta Martínez, through Tremendas and her work on climate leadership, has focused on how concern turns into action. Her work is about lowering the barriers to participation, building movements rather than short-term projects, and creating the networks and communities that give change the strength to endure.

Read more about Julieta Martínez Annie Hohlfält | Head of Division, District Welfare and Leisure, Northeast Social Welfare Administration, City of Gothenburg. Her responsibilities include community safety, public health and participation in urban planning in northeast Gothenburg, and she previously served as Head of Development at the Framtiden Group, where she helped build Framtidshubbarna, an initiative supporting people moving into work, education or entrepreneurship. Across both roles, she has built structures for participation and safety together with civil society in vulnerable areas in vulnerable areas.

Vanessa Ansah-Pewudie | Executive Director, Navet i Bergsjön She leads Navet's work as an open meeting place for the residents and civil society of Bergsjön, with a focus on participation, culture and local engagement. The organisation mobilises residents through community-building activities, offers a platform for local associations to organise and collaborate, and works to strengthen residents' democratic influence over their neighbourhood.

Moderator: Martin Ärnlöv | Director of Göteborgs Stadsmission He brings extensive experience from leading major civil society organisations, including previous roles as Secretary General of the Swedish Red Cross and CEO of Bräcke Diakoni. Under his leadership, Göteborgs Stadsmission drives numerous grassroots initiatives focused on breaking isolation, empowering individuals, and fostering local solidarity.
